This is the main, and hopefully permanent, home for my Ranque-Hilsch Vortex Tube Home pages. From here you can view the on-line version of my 1995 thesis, find out how to obtain paper/electronic copies, and read my other writings on this astounding device.
Offshore wind energy is likely to play an important role in meeting electricity demand in the near future. As part of a research project funded by the European Commission, I've been involved in the development of a model that attempts to simulate both the engineering and economic aspects of offshore wind farms. This work was undertaken at the University of Sunderland, in co-operation with the Delft University Wind Energy Research Unit.
I can offer consultancy services to clients in the following and other fields:
Teaching and miscellaneous software
I've written a small number of utilities / excel sheets etc. that may be of use. These include a gawk script to convert postscript files into web pages (this was how I produced the thesis above), and a thermodynamic cycle simulator in excel.

This section contains software developed for the analysis of engineering problems. For the most part, FORTRAN source code and executables are available free of charge for non commercial use.
A rather eclectic set of problems are covered - the reason is that all these routines have been originally developed for other purposes (e.g. cost models). If I happen to have needed a particular calculation, the code appears here.
